The Haitian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida extends its warmest congratulations to Ms. Lody Jean on her appointment to the bench as Miami Dade County Court Judge by Governor Rick Scott .
Ms. Lody Jean was born and raised in Haiti, and is of Lebanese ancestry. She attended the University of Miami where she received her bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Political Science, as well as a minor in Foreign Languages. Ms. Jean received her Juris
Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law, during which time, she was a recipient of the Haitian Lawyers Association scholarship.
While in law school, Ms. Jean interned at the Legal Services of Greater Miami working with a staff attorney on the Haitian Citizenship Project which provided a grant servicing primarily those of Haitian descent apply for naturalization. Ms. Jean also interned at the Third District Court of Appeal (3DCA), at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office and Broward State Attorney’s Office. While at the 3DCA, Ms. Jean was a summer clerk for the Honorable Melvia
Green who was the first African American woman to be appointed to the Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
From August 2004 to June 2012, she served with the State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, first as an Assistant State Attorney, and then as a Felony Division Chief. As a Deputy Chief, she prosecuted homicide cases and supervised Assistant State Attorneys. She is now the owner of Lody Jean, PA, specializing in immigration and criminal defense with a focus on deportation related matters.
Ms. Jean has served the Haitian community in various ways throughout the years, including as a Board of Director for the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida (HACCOFL) and immediate past chairwoman of the Haitian Lawyers Association (HLA). HACCOFL also recognized Ms. Jean as one of the Top 20 under 40 Young Haitian Professionals Class of 2018.
