congratulates Ms. Theresa Therilus on her appointment as the First Haitian American City Manager for the City of North Miami.

North Miami, Florida – May 27, 2020

The Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida (HACCOF) would like to congratulate Ms.Theresa Therilus, on her appointment as City Manager for the City of North Miami. Ms. Therilus is one of HACCOF’s “Top 20 Under 40” Class of 2018. This elite group of top young Haitian-American Professionals (YoPros) in the South Florida community are honored for their outstanding professional achievements in their respective industries, civic leadership, and community engagement.

Theresa Therilus will serve as the First Haitian American woman appointed to City Manager for the City of North Miami, the sixth largest city in Miami-Dade County.

“Ms. Therilus brings a wealth of budget, capital project and management experience to our organization,” said City of North Miami Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime. “Along her career path, she has mastered the skills to deal with government at the County, State, and Federal level. She also has vast experience managing teams through emergencies. All her skills will be vital to our City in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“I want to thank Mayor Bien-Aime and the Council for their confidence in my ability to lead the City of North Miami. As a Haitian-American, I am particularly proud of the opportunity to work for the residents of North Miami. We have a lot to overcome in the coming months and my main focus will be continuing to support our residents during this pandemic and leading North Miami on the path to long term success.” said Therilus.

A results oriented, strategic lawyer with 12+ years of legal, compliance, and corporate governance experience; specializing in helping companies in highly regulated industries or with uncertain regulatory affairs manage acquisitions, navigate legal landscapes and strategically position themselves. She has extensive transactional and litigation experience both in the private and public sectors, which uniquely position her to provide sound legal advice on business operations from a regulatory and business perspective.

In addition to her private law practice Ms. Therilus brings extensive experience in the public sector to the City of North Miami, she has held Executive level positions with Santa Clara County in California, Miami-Dade County as well as with the Florida Attorney General.

Ms. Therilus holds a B.A. in Economics and Legal Studies from the University of Miami and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
