Barner began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in the State Attorney’s Office in Broward County in 2006, where she handled both non jury and jury trials of offenses ranging from traffic offenses (e.g. DUI’s) to felonies such as armed robbery, sexual battery, drug dealing, and murder in the first degree. Barner was also case filer and has successfully argued hundreds of motions and tried as many non-jury trials throughout her career. While an Assistant State Attorney, Florence practiced in County Court, Circuit Juvenile Court and Circuit Criminal Court. After three plus years with the State Attorney’s Office, Barner joined the law firm of Weitz & Schwartz, P.A., where she has had a successful commercial litigation/civil trial practice since 2010 handling trials around the State of Florida on behalf of Fortune 100 corporations.

Barner earned her juris doctor degree from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law in 2006. Her academic success is reflected in the awards and scholarships that she earned there: her top performance in her classes earned her the Book Award in Advanced Litigation Skills, Honors in Legal Research and Writing and Trial Practice and a place on the Dean’s List; her commitment to community service earned her the University of Florida, Levin College of Law Pro Bono Certificate; and she was awarded the Chester H. Ferguson Scholarship and Levin College of Law Tuition Scholarship She is deeply committed to the community, volunteering her time with Restoration of Rights Workshops, Broward Humane Society, Share-a-Pet Pet Therapy, and her local Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

Barner is a member of several local organizations including the T.J. Reddick Bar Association, Haitian Lawyers Association, NAACP, Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court, Broward Attorneys Real Estate Council, American Bar Association, American Birders Association and Florida Association of Women Lawyers, the Broward County Women Lawyers Association.
