The daughter of Gonel Joseph, a reverend, and Marguerite Mompremier, a nurse and educator, Dotie Joseph was born in Haiti into a life of public service and community activism. Raised in Miami, Dotie first attended Miami-Dade public schools and later earned degrees from Yale University and Georgetown Law. She interned with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law, where she litigated employment discrimination cases all around the U.S. and worked on human rights issues in Egypt and Uganda. Dotie served as an Intern for President Carter in Atlanta, as a Legislative Correspondent for Congressman Peter Deutsch in DC, as an Extern with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, as an Intern with the Miami-Dade Public Defenders Office, as a Campaign Surrogate for Secretary Clinton, and as a Volunteer Election Protection Attorney for both of President Barak Obama’s campaigns. After returning home to Miami, Dotie became the first black attorney to work for the City of North Miami Beach and the first black woman to be Vice-Chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party. She’s a past President of the Haitian Lawyers Association; she volunteers her time with the NAACP, the Miami-Dade Black Affairs Advisory Board, and Sant La. She is currently a Candidate for State Representative of District 108.
