Sandy Juste
Dr. Sandy Juste, MD, MSc is a psychiatry resident physician and an APA SAMHSA Minority Fellow. As a first-generation Haitian-American, she is deeply committed to addressing disparities in minority mental health. Dr. Juste focuses on child and adolescent psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and women’s mental health.
She actively uses cognitive behavioral therapy and psychodynamic therapy. By integrating them with evidence-based psychopharmacology, she ensures optimal patient outcomes. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in South Florida, Dr. Juste pursued her bachelor’s degree in Health Education & Behavior at the University of Florida. There, she earned the UF Presidential Service Award for her dedication to health and community service.
Afterward, Dr. Juste continued her education at Georgetown University. She earned a Master’s in Physiology & Biophysics and a graduate certificate in Advanced Biomedical Sciences. During medical school, she received the Eliza-Ann Grier Minority Scholarship and the APA Minority Medical Student Award. Ultimately, she graduated with High Honors from the University of Medicine & Health Sciences (UMHS) with her MD.
In her intern year, Dr. Juste earned both the APA Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and the SAMHSA Minority Fellowship. Choosing the latter, she focused on promoting equity in mental health for marginalized populations. Currently, she serves on the APA Council for Children, Adolescents, and Their Families. Additionally, she received the AACAP Educational Outreach Award for general psychiatry residents. As a second-year resident, Dr. Juste continues to refine her clinical skills, treating underserved patients with mental illness and substance use disorders.
Previously, she taught science in Broward County and launched a pre-medical elective for underrepresented students. Moreover, during the COVID pandemic, she founded Mind & Medicine (M&M) to address the mental health needs of Caribbean and minority communities in South Florida.
